Mosque attack in Homs leaves eight dead, dozens injured
Najeeb Al-Naasan, head of emergency and ambulance services, warned that “the toll is not final and is likely to rise.”
A statement from the Interior Ministry described the incident as a “terrorist blast” targeting the Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib Mosque on Al-Khodari Street in the Wadi al-Dhahab neighborhood.
Security forces quickly secured the area, establishing a cordon around the site. Specialized teams have begun investigations and evidence collection to identify and apprehend those responsible.
No group has claimed responsibility so far.
The attack occurs as Syria’s new administration works to strengthen security nationwide and address threats from remnants of the former regime accused of provoking unrest.
Bashar al-Assad, who led Syria for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia, ending the Ba’ath Party’s decades-long rule since 1963. In January, a transitional government led by President Ahmad al-Sharaa was established to guide the country through its next phase.
