UN Chief Condemns Mosque Attack in Homs
“Attacks against civilians and places of worship are unacceptable,” Guterres emphasized, noting that those responsible must be identified and brought to justice, according to a statement from his spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric.
Guterres further mentioned that Syrian officials have condemned the assault and reiterated their commitment to fighting terrorism.
"The Secretary-General extends his condolences to the families of those killed and expresses his sympathy to all those injured, wishing them a prompt and full recovery," Dujarric stated.
The tragic incident at the Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib Mosque on Al-Khodari Street, in Homs’ Wadi al-Dhahab neighborhood, left at least eight people dead and 18 others wounded.
The newly established Syrian administration is striving to enhance security nationwide and target remnants of the former regime accused of provoking unrest.
Bashar al-Assad, Syria’s leader for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia, bringing an end to the Baath Party rule, which had lasted since 1963. A transitional government led by President Ahmad al-Sharaa was inaugurated in January.
