YPG/SDF Breaches Ceasefire, Attacks Civilians in Northern Aleppo

(MENAFN) The YPG/SDF terrorist group violated its ceasefire agreement with the Syrian government on Saturday by attacking civilians attempting to leave besieged areas in northern Aleppo province, according to reports.

SDF fighters reportedly fired on residents trying to evacuate the villages of al-Qubba and al-Jaada, which have been under siege for several days, as they moved toward the Qara Qozak bridge south of Ain al-Arab (Kobani) in eastern Aleppo countryside. The sources did not clarify the exact nature of the assault or indicate whether there were casualties.

On Friday, Damascus announced a comprehensive ceasefire and phased agreement with the SDF. The deal includes an immediate halt to hostilities, a phased integration of military and administrative structures, withdrawal of forces from contact lines, and the deployment of Interior Ministry security units to the city centers of Hasakah and Qamishli as part of broader stabilization measures.

The agreement is intended to unify Syrian territory, reinforce state authority, and promote full institutional integration through coordinated efforts to rebuild the country.

Earlier, on Jan. 18, the Syrian government and the SDF signed a previous ceasefire and integration agreement, but Damascus has accused the group of repeated and “serious” violations.

The latest deal comes after a Syrian Army operation that regained extensive areas in eastern and northeastern Syria following breaches of prior understandings by the SDF.
