Barzani Applauds Syria–SDF Deal
According to the Syrian Presidency, President Ahmed al-Sharaa and Barzani held a phone conversation in which they reviewed the latest political and security developments unfolding in Syria.
During the call, Sharaa reaffirmed the government’s dedication to protecting the national, political, and civil rights of the Kurdish population, emphasizing that all Syrians stand equal before the law and are entitled to the same rights.
Barzani conveyed his approval of the agreement, underlining the necessity of executing the arrangement in a way that preserves Syria’s territorial integrity and promotes long-term stability.
The statement noted that both parties stressed the value of collaboration and coordinated action to ensure the effective implementation of the deal and to help foster calm across Syria and the broader region.
Earlier on Friday, Damascus declared a wide-ranging ceasefire and a step-by-step agreement between the government and the SDF.
As part of the understanding, both sides pledged to an immediate halt in hostilities and a gradual process to merge military and administrative institutions.
The accord also stipulates the pullback of forces from front lines and the deployment of Interior Ministry security units to the urban centers of Hasakah and Qamishli in northeastern Syria, within a larger framework aimed at restoring order.
Additionally, the agreement seeks to consolidate Syrian territory, reinforce state sovereignty, and move toward comprehensive institutional integration through cooperation and joint initiatives to reconstruct the country.
