Syria Names Presidential Representative to Oversee SDF

(MENAFN) The Syrian presidency has designated a presidential envoy to supervise the execution of the Jan. 29 agreement concluded with the YPG/SDF, according to reports from state-run media.

As stated by official sources, Brig. Gen. Ziad Al-Ayesh has been tasked with monitoring the rollout of the agreement and supporting efforts to integrate structures under the authority of the Syrian state. The move, the presidency indicated, is designed to reinforce the role of government institutions, address bureaucratic hurdles, and restore public services in the regions included in the accord.

Reports indicate that Al-Ayesh originates from Arjah Al-Jawalah village in the rural area of Hasakah province in northeastern Syria. His academic background includes a degree in Sharia from Al-Ouzai University in Lebanon, as well as a master’s degree in business administration from Idlib University in northwestern Syria.

Before the collapse of Bashar Assad’s government on Dec. 8, 2024, Al-Ayesh served as head of civil affairs within the Interior Ministry of the Salvation Government based in Idlib.

On Jan. 30, authorities announced that they had finalized a “comprehensive agreement” with the SDF intended to resolve internal fragmentation and usher in a new stage of integration. According to the announcement, the deal — which addresses the cities of Hasakah and Qamishli along with the unification of military forces — builds on an earlier accord reached on Jan. 18.

The most recent agreement came in the wake of a Syrian Army operation that restored government control over significant portions of eastern and northeastern Syria. That campaign followed repeated violations by the SDF of a March 2025 agreement, according to reports.
