Syria Calls for Stability

(MENAFN) Syria’s top diplomat voiced apprehension on Monday regarding "certain armed militias operating outside the state's sovereignty in Lebanon.”

“We view Lebanon as a partner and neighbor to Syria, and we hope to achieve stability there along with economic cooperation between the two countries," Asaad al-Shaibani remarked in comments to a broadcaster.

His remarks were delivered during a combined press briefing alongside EU Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Suica at the EU–Syria Partnership Forum held in Brussels, Belgium.

Shaibani emphasized that Syria aims to establish the groundwork for enduring institutional collaboration, shifting beyond a connection focused exclusively on humanitarian aid toward a wider alliance based on mutual interests. His statements were also reported by a news agency.

He further affirmed that Damascus is interacting with European nations “with the utmost seriousness," underscoring Syria’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic engagement.

Meanwhile, the European Union announced the reinstatement of the full implementation of its cooperation accord with Syria, signaling another move toward restoring relations following the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s administration.

The EU Council approved a measure ending the partial suspension of the Cooperation Agreement between the European Economic Community and Syria. The decision overturns a 2011 ruling that had frozen sections of the agreement due to the Assad government’s human rights abuses.
